Mens Fashion Tips on Finding the Perfect Fit

Finding the perfect fit can sometimes be tricky, especially since there are a lot of men’s styles out there. Nevertheless, there are some general rules that you can follow so that you always have clothes that make you look good. We’re going to talk about this, and help you pick clothes that fit you, no matter if we’re talking about jeans, designer t-shirts, shirts or coats.

Finding a t-shirt that will fit you is quite easy. You need to make sure that the seam that links the sleeve to the body of the tee starts right at your armpit and goes straight up. If this doesn’t happen, it means that the shirt is either too small for you, or too large. At the same time, the length needs to be appropriate. As a rule of the thumb, if you can see your abdomen when you raise your hands up into the air, then the t-shirt is too short. When it comes to maximum length, make sure that it doesn’t cover your behind completely, or that it stays on your waist but creases awkwardly.

Let’s talk about shirts. Just like t-shirts, they need to fall right on your shoulders, so the same seam rule applies. However, shirts need to fit even better, which means that they should be a bit tight around your chest, and on your sides, they should go straight, or follow your lines. Make sure that the sleeve is the right length – it should end where you thumb starts.

When it comes to jeans, these are tricky. First of all, there are jeans that are looser and jeans that are tighter. However, no matter what mens style you have and what you prefer, for a pair of jeans and pants in general, to fit you right, you need to look at the waist. Basically, you need to be able to put one or two fingers between the jeans and the skin. Too much means that the jeans are too large, to little means that they’re too tight. The length of the jeans is also tricky. The best thing is to try them on without any shoes, and they should end right at the sole of your feet. This way, when you put your shoes on, they’ll look really nice and natural.

Let’s talk a bit about coats. Unlike shirts and designer t-shirts, coats come in a variety of models, but, a rule that you should always follow is to keep it simple. You don’t want too many belts, buckles, accessories, pockets, zippers and colors. The simpler the jacket, the better.

Men’s Style by Russell Smith – Book Review

Writers on sartorial style tend to have a lovely prose style. This is certainly the case for Russell Smith, author of Men’s Style: The Thinking Man’s Guide to Dress. His book is full of interesting and entertaining anecdotes, paragraphs and turns of phrase, yet he never comes across as trying too hard. He’s able to explain the technicalities of fine dress while writing in plain English — easier said than done.

The one problem with any style guide is that, at bottom, style is a matter of personal taste, and the rules become more subjective as you gain expertise. Russell does not deny this, but he is also firm about his convictions. I’d personally much rather read a book like this–even if I disagreed with most of the author’s prescriptions and proscriptions–than a book full of wishy-washy relativism (“Leisure suits are not my thing, but wear them if you want to.” How helpful would that be?).

Rules of style are meant to make dressing less confusing, since “it is useful to know the rules, particularly if you are new to this whole game and don’t trust your own taste.” Fred Astaire may be able to pull off an outfit that would leave you or I looking like a dressed-up ape, not because he’s handsome (he isn’t) but because he’s a pro. He can break the rules because he knows them, and he knows the loopholes.

The book is a good introduction to men’s style, especially traditional and somewhat formal style. It shows you how clothes can make you feel sexy and cool. It shows you how to dress for different occasions. It’s also a fun read. But if you’re looking for advice on, say, how to pick the best color shirt for your skin tone, or how to dress for your body type, you might want something more practical and technical.

The book has wide margins, which allow quotes, illustrations and sidebars to frame the page. The illustrations, by the excellently-named Edwin Fotheringham, are a nice addition and help illustrate the author’s point: a chapter about casual dress features a man dressed in a paisley leisure suit with a gold chain. The caption: “Casual dress is probably the contemporary male’s weakest point.” Point made.

This is a great gift for a man who is interested in style, or at least in sleeping with women. (If he’s interested in sleeping with men, he’ll still find it entertaining.) If you have a spouse, brother, or friend who makes abysmal fashion choices, consider giving them this book as an introduction to style. I’ve combined this book with an old picture book of Fred Astaire or Carey Grant, just to point out how important good style can be.

Metal Fashion Accessories to Boost Men’s Style

Men have accepted the challenge of staying in fashion. Gone are the days when women dominate the fashion scene, and men were just in the sidelines. Now, men have become more aggressive in finding their identity and expressing their style. Men are bold enough to recognize that wearing a tie is not enough and blending colors are no longer the ultimate rule. Traditional fashion will tell us that men in their formal suits must wear a leather-band watch or no watch at all. Times have changed, and the metals have asserted their place in this ever dynamic world of men’s fashion.

What are these metal fashion accessories that stand above the rest?

Rings for Men

One does not need to be married to wear a ring. It would be too easy to place the ring far from the ring finger so no one, especially not the girls you would want to meet, would mistake you as being married. Futuristic rings in titanium have become recent favorites. Classic silver rings are also popular.

Necklace and Pendants for Men

Add attitude to your wardrobe by slipping in a white gold necklace with a rope cross pendant or a silver sterling dual ball chain with an engravable dog tag. We are past the stage when only a wedding ring and a watch are what men can wear. In this age, men have other options to accentuate their look.

Bracelets for Men

Impress the crowd by arriving in ultimate style wearing a silver sterling cuff bracelet or a gold curb link bracelet. Do not be afraid to put something around that wrist. Make sure that when you chose the bracelet for you, the size and the tone fit you well. Do not wear large bracelets when your forearm is too thin or shiny gold chains when your skin tone is too pale or too pink. Complement your body’s traits with the right accessories.

Cufflinks for Men

For several generations, cufflinks for men have been successful in separating the men with style and the men without. Its discretionary nature is probably one of the main reasons that it can command high respects in the fashion industry. Only men who take the extra mile of adding cufflinks to their formal attire can claim to have elegance by their side. Popular cufflinks for men come in sterling silver, gold or titanium, although color cufflinks are also coming into the scene. It is almost completely harmless to experiment on the designs of cufflinks you would like to wear.

Watches for Men

For many decades, we have adhered to leather-band watches as the staple for formal wear, although some would argue that men in formal attire must not wear a watch at all. We have been long past that stage. Silver watches have been well accepted as one of the metal accessories that can effectively give any man’s style a major lift. Whether you need one to complete a professional look or a ruggedly handsome appearance, silver watches would be perfect.

Whether your interests are in silver, gold, artistic, sports cufflinks, or other theme-related cufflinks we’ve got you covered. Cufflink Aficionado carries a broad range of men’s cuff links designed to meet each connoisseur’s individual style and interest. Our selection of cuff links are sure to top off that perfect look.

Designer Tips For Fashion Styling – Mix and Match Your Way to Chic

When people find out that I’m a fashion designer, aside from the cliche assumption that I design and make my clothes (which I don’t!), they usually presume that I have a particular clothing style and that I spend a lot of money when I shop for clothes. In reality, neither of these misconceptions is true. I don’t have a defined fashion style. The way I dress depends greatly on occasion, location, season, current trends, time of the day, and my mood. Many times, I’ll actually use fashion styling to get myself in a certain mood. When I’m asked for styling advice, I’ll reply with “How do you want to feel?” I think fashion and styling posses a power that can make you feel a certain way. In this article, I’ll share a few “Designer Tips” on fashion styling. I’ll start with some very important fashion advice- how to shop for clothes.

Since my outfits usually turn a few heads, people assume they are really expensive- yet another false impression. Not to say that I won’t occasionally splurge on something expensive; I just appreciate a good bargain when I see one. The only time I’ll overpay for an item is when I LOVE it and I know I won’t be able to find it anywhere else. Like the Diesel jacket I bought for $165. It was exactly what I was looking for and I knew that no one else would make something even remotely similar. Casual, but chic; sporty, but girly – I knew it would last for a few seasons. That’s actually one of my fashion shopping rules: if I pay more than $150 for something, it has to last for a few seasons. If I’m shopping for something very trendy that will probably be “in” for only one season, I won’t spend more than $100, better yet, no more than $50.

So how do I manage to look expensive? Designer tip number one is good fit. If something doesn’t fit right, no matter how cheap it is – I won’t buy it. Why would I wear something that pulls and gathers in the wrong places and looks awkward on me? It doesn’t matter how much salespeople try to “help”, and say it’s not noticeable. I notice, and others will too. They might not be able to pinpoint exactly what bothers them, but they’ll notice something’s off. The same concept goes for details and accents – many people think they don’t notice little details, but they do. Some details may not stand out on their own, but they definitely contribute to overall appearance.

Once I went on a blind date wearing a plain black jersey skirt slightly below the knee that I bought for $20. I paired it with a black tank that had a touch of lace ($15), and killer looking shoes. They were pointy high heels in faded metallic pink, which created a vintage look ($55, a lucky bargain buy!). Two men accused me of trying to cause a traffic accident as I crossed the street! Men and (more remarkably) women were turning their heads. Needless to say, my blind date was more then relieved! His first remark to me was that he “loved stylish women”. Bottom line: my outfit was totally chic- and all under $100.

Another shopping tip: to make an ordinary outfit look chic, I’ll throw in something expensive, such as an accessory. I went to a party wearing a black jersey dress with bishop sleeves ($25), and accented it with a hip shaped beaded belt I bought in London for almost $250. I know it sounds overpriced, but that belt breathed new life into a lot of older outdated garments that I loved dearly. I had this gorgeous chiffon dress that I bought 7 years ago. I loved the mysterious color effect created by layers of different color fabrics and the way the skirt flared. Even after the silhouette went out of style, I couldn’t bear to part with that dress! By adding my beaded belt, I successfully reshaped the dress creating a low waist retro kind of look, and wore it to my best friend’s wedding- with complements!

The truth is that I love fashion, and I love women. It makes me happy when I can make a difference in their often complicated, yet extraordinary lives. Ladies, keep in mind when it comes to fashion, nothing is written in stone. What is a fashion disaster today may be on the runway tomorrow, and vice versa.

How Does Automatic Transmission Change Gears

As drivers, we know how the transmission works: we push the clutch in, change the gear and then continue driving normally. Manual transmission also teaches us how to perform clutch control without stalling or rolling on an incline. So how does an automatic car change gears?

There are more parts in this system that makes it a more complicated system. An automatic car has something called a torque converter. For the car to move forward, whether manual or automatic, torque is needed for the initial momentum.

The torque converter is a fluid link where its job is to connect the engine to the transmission and the transmission to the driven wheels (Front Wheel Drive or Rear Wheel Drive).

The engine is connected to the transmission in a bell housing. This is where the torque converter is. The transmission also contains something called planetary gear sets which provide different gear ratios.

The engine’s flex plate is also connected to this torque converter. So the torque converter basically takes the place of a clutch in an automatic car. When the crankshaft rotates it also rotates the converter. This is how the torque converter will disconnect and connect the engine’s power to the load being driven.

The torque converter has main components that make automatic transmission successful. These include:

  • The impeller – connected to the engine which is responsible for driving the turbine using viscous forces on the transmission fluid.
  • The turbine – connected to the transmission input shaft that sends the torque force to the transmission.
  • The stator – which sits between the impeller and the turbine. It lessens churning losses.
    The lock up clutch.

During the compression of the fluid it returns from the turbine that works against the impeller and its rotating movement that also acts on the engine.

The stator redirects the fluid so that the majority of the velocity gets driven towards the impeller which then adds to the torque produced by the motor. It can only rotate in one direction if the impeller and turbine are moving at the same speed. Stators do not apply torque when on a highway, only when coming to a stop or accelerating.

A planetary gear set consists of a sun gear and planet gears which rotate around the central sun gear, like our solar system. A planet carrier gear connects the planet gears with a ring gear that meshes them. The planetary gear set prevents certain components from moving when using clutches and brakes. This alters the input and the output of the system that changes the overall gear ratio.

Depending on which component is fixed it will determine the final gear ratio. If a ring gear is stationery or fixed, the ratio will be shorter than if the sun gear is fixed or stationery.

Brakes Noises Solutions

There will come a time whilst you are driving that you will have problems with your brakes. You might not notice it immediately but once you start to hear the noises, know that there is something wrong.

First thing’s first. Slowly pull over to the side of the road as soon as you start to hear these noises. Make sure that you keep a good distance from the road in case you have a flat tyre instead and need to change it.

These are the different noises your brakes make that you should be fully aware of:

Grinding – grinding is usually the sound of two metal pieces rubbing together. So know that this means that you have a severely damaged brake pad. Without a brake pad, there is nothing that is stopping you safely. It is recommended that you do not continue to drive as it could prevent you from stopping at a traffic light.

Knocking from the rear – this constant annoying sound you hear when applying brakes indicates that there is a problem with the rear drums. There could be a possibility that the brake or rear drum has been resurfaced which is causing that knocking sound. Fixing this problem can be done by yourself but it would be wise to get a technician to fix it.

Squeaking – this is a sign that wear has been done to the brakes. If not fixed it could be dangerous to you. The squeaking sound is usually caused by a wear indicator. This lets the driver know that wear is being detected. Make sure that you get the brakes replaced immediately. You can still drive a good distance before being in danger but make sure that they get replaced soon.

If you are aware of the problem whilst you are driving and know that the problem is dangerous to you and other drivers make sure that you switch your hazard lights on and drive slowly and calmly. If your brakes don’t work at all, release the accelerator and slowly move into the side lane. With the car losing momentum you will eventually come to a stop. Engine braking will also assist the car to slow down. Engine braking is achieved by gearing down.

When you are close to coming to a stop, pull up the hand brake slowly so that your wheels don’t lock up thus making you swerve around dangerously.

The Mercedes Tuning – What Are The Reasons To Tune Your Vehicle?

We are very well aware of the shooting fuel prices in the market. Hence, it is crucial to tune your Mercedes, so that it delivers great mpg. There are many reasons of the Mercedes tuning like better acceleration, enhanced torque, great economy, more power, healthier engine etc.

We have seen rapid growth in the technology in the field of automobiles. The super chip tuning technology is developed especially for the premium cars like Mercedes. The tuning is efficient for both the petrol and diesel version of car. It will ensure that your car gives best performance without any hassle.

Importance of tuning

Once the vehicle is tuned, it will reduce the emission and improve the performance by 15%. It is quite obvious that tuning will help your vehicle in multiple ways. However, you must tune the vehicle timely to avoid any inconvenience. The experts recommend visiting to the mechanic once in three months. The professionals will make sure that none of the part needs repairing.

As the fuel prices have increased, so does the dependency on vehicles. It is crucial to keep your car in good shape. If you maintain the car properly, then the car will run efficiently for long years without any hassle. Else, it would require regular repairing that will ultimately lead to lower mpg and reduce the performance.

What to consider while tuning the exhaust system?

The exhaust system of the Mercedes includes a front pipe, exhaust manifold, catalyst converter, silencer, exhaust tip and tail pipe. While tuning the system, muffler is the easiest to deal. The professionals will replace the stock muffler with high performance muffler.

As a result, you will get a free flow exhaust system. You must keep in mind that the inlet and outlet pipe of the muffler is of the same size as front and tail pipe. Check out the diameter of tail and front pipe. They must have same dimensions for better performance. Other terms of the exhaust system is a little complicated to understand. You must have knowledge of the engine’s power band, exhaust back pressure and usable RPM.

If excessive pressure is produced by the system, then it will have a negative impact on the performance of the engine. This will restrict the flow of exhaust gases. As a result, the engine will be inefficient to expel exhaust gases. Ultimately, it would lead to much reduced engine power.

Dos and the don’ts

Make sure that you never attach pea-shooter instead of the exhaust system to the engine. You must also not install a 10 inch wastewater pipe. In case the exhaust pipe is big enough, then it will lead to much reduced flow velocity of the gases. You have to keep in mind to get the exhaust back pressure perfect.

While tuning the exhaust system, the professionals aim to increase the power of the engine by the right exhaust tuning.
